If you remember one rule after your Facial of Their Choice, make it this: keep your skin calm and clean for the first 48 hours. That means skipping heavy makeup, sweating, direct sun, hot showers, and any “active” products that tingle. I see the best glow when you stick to gentle cleansing with lukewarm water, a simple hydrating serum or moisturizer, and SPF. And yes, that Hamilton sun and humidity can sneak up on you fast, especially in August.
This aftercare guide is the same advice I give to clients heading back to Stoney Creek, Dundas, Ancaster, Burlington, Flamborough, Waterdown, or straight home up the escarpment. It’s simple, but it protects your results.
Your first 24–48 hours: the rules that prevent redness and breakouts
Right after facials, your skin tends to be more reactive because we’ve just exfoliated, massaged, and worked product into the surface. That’s why I keep your first two days boring on purpose.
Quick 48-hour plan: gentle cleanse, hydrate, and protect with SPF. Skip makeup, sweat, heat, and actives.
Do this
- Cleanse gently with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser. Pat dry. No scrubs, no cleansing brushes.
- Moisturize with a fragrance-free cream or lotion. If your skin feels tight, apply a second thin layer instead of switching products.
- Wear broad-spectrum mineral SPF every morning. Reapply if you’re outside, even if it’s “just a quick walk.”
- Keep hands off your face. Touching and picking is one of the fastest ways to turn a small bump into a full breakout.
Avoid this
- Sweaty workouts and saunas. Heat plus sweat can sting and trigger congestion. In Hamilton’s humid summer weather, this matters even more.
- Hot showers and steamy baths. Keep water lukewarm and keep your face out of direct spray.
- Heavy makeup if you can. If you must wear it, keep it light and remove it gently that night.
- Direct sun. This is big. Protect your glow with SPF and shade, especially if you’re out on the escarpment trails in August.
The first week: when “active” skincare does more harm than good
For days 3 through 7, keep the same calm routine. This is when people get tempted to “speed up” results with stronger products. Usually that’s when irritation, flaking, or random bumps show up.
I generally recommend you avoid retinol, AHAs/BHAs, and vitamin C serums for 5 to 7 days unless I’ve told you differently. If you’re doing microneedling near me searches and planning that next, wait until your skin is settled first. Strong treatments stack quickly.
Hold off for 7–14 days: facials, peels, waxing, microdermabrasion, and strong exfoliation. If you’re booking waxing or searching waxing near me, let me know where you wax so we can time it properly.
And if you’re a “sweat right after” person, I get it. My practical tip for Hamilton Mountain clients is to book late-afternoon appointments when you can. It helps you avoid the peak daytime heat and that busy Concession Street rush, and it gives your skin a quiet evening to settle.
The simple product routine I want you on after facials
You don’t need a 10-step routine to keep your results. You need the right types of products, used consistently and gently.
Morning (first week)
- Gentle cleanse (or rinse if you’re dry and not oily).
- Hydrating serum if you already use one and it doesn’t contain strong actives.
- Moisturizer plus mineral SPF. If you’re out in strong sun around Hamilton, reapply. No skipping.
Night (first week)
- Gentle cleanse. If you wore makeup, remove it carefully. No scrubbing.
- Moisturizer. If your skin feels sensitive, keep it fragrance-free and simple.
- Skip retinol, acids, vitamin C, and exfoliating tools until I give you the green light.
If you’re also doing other services here, like laser hair removal, lash extensions, manicure, pedicure, or searching for body contouring near me, tell me what’s booked next so I can space things out in a way your skin actually likes.
What’s normal after a facial, and when I want you to reach out
A little pinkness, mild tightness, or a small bump surfacing can be normal for a day or two, especially if we did extractions. That “fresh” feeling can come with a touch of sensitivity.
I want you to reach out right away if you notice severe swelling, blistering, intense pain, or redness that’s spreading. Don’t wait it out and hope. Send a message and I’ll walk you through the next step.
"I had a facial today at Elva Medical Aesthetics on Concession Street, and it was absolutely amazing! The experience was so relaxing and soothing that I actually fell asleep afterwards... My skin feels refreshed and glowing, I can’t wait to go back!"
One of our first-time visitors
A note for Hamilton Mountain commuters: If you’re heading back into heat and traffic after your appointment, keep your face out of the sun on the way home, avoid touching, and skip the gym until the next day. Your skin will thank you.
How this fits with your Facial of Their Choice consult
This facial is part of our $999 laser hair removal package and includes a $100 facial gift card plus a consult so I can steer you toward the best option for your skin that day. Some people are ready for something more intensive like dermaplaning or a hydra facial. Others need a calmer reset first. The aftercare above keeps you covered either way.
If you found me searching facial near me, I want you to leave with more than a glow. I want you to feel clear on what to do next, what to avoid, and when to check in. That’s how results last.
Need help choosing your next step? Reply to your confirmation email or call us and tell me what you’re seeing on your skin and what you’re using at home. I’ll help you time your next facials, waxing, or laser hair removal appointment so you keep the results you paid for.
