Chemical Peel Decollate Add-On: First 7 Days of Aftercare
By Elva Medical Aesthetics | November 1, 2026
The single most important rule after your Chemical Peel Decollate Add-On is this: keep the skin calm and protected from sun and heat. This add-on is quick, about 10 minutes, but the upper chest can be reactive. For the first 48 to 72 hours in Hamilton, stick to gentle cleansing, a barrier moisturizer, and daily broad-spectrum SPF. Skip sweating, steam, active exfoliants, and retinoids, and don’t pick at peeling.
I’m writing this for the moment you get home and think, “Okay, now what do I do with my neck and chest?” If you’re on Hamilton Mountain, especially around the Concession Street area, your schedule might be tight. I keep this guide practical so you can do your morning and evening aftercare in a few minutes and protect the results you just paid for.
First 24 to 48 hours: keep your chest cool, clean, and boring
Right after a peel, I generally recommend you treat the décolletage like it’s in a “do not disturb” phase. A little warmth or friction that you wouldn’t even notice on your face can turn into redness on the chest.
In the first 2 days: gentle cleanse, moisturize, SPF in the morning, and avoid heat, sweat, and anything “active.”
Do this
- Cleanse gently once daily or as needed, using lukewarm water and a mild, non-scrubby cleanser.
- Moisturize with a simple barrier moisturizer. The goal is comfort, not “fixing” it fast.
- Wear soft, non-rubbing clothing at the neckline. Think smooth fabric, not stiff seams.
- Use clean linens and avoid scented laundry products touching the area if you’re sensitive.
Skip this
- Hot showers on the chest, steam rooms, saunas. Heat can flare redness.
- Workouts that make you sweat, especially in tight sports bras or straps that rub the upper chest.
- Scrubs, loofahs, exfoliating gloves. No physical exfoliation.
- Retinoids and exfoliating acids (like glycolic, lactic, salicylic) for now.
Days 3 to 7: the “peeling window” and what I don’t want you doing
This is usually when people get tempted. You might see light flaking, a dry texture, or patchy peeling on the upper chest. That’s normal for many peel types. What causes problems is rushing it.
Don’t pick. I know it’s hard. Picking can lead to extra redness and marks that last longer than the peel itself. Let the skin shed on its own timeline.
Hamilton weather note: even when UV feels milder, you can still tan and burn. In winter, indoor heating dries skin out fast, so you’ll often need an extra layer of moisturizer on the chest.
Sun, sweat, and water rules for the first week
- SPF 30+ every morning on the neck and chest, even if you’re “just driving.” Reapply if you’re outside.
- Avoid tanning beds completely during healing.
- Avoid chlorinated pools, hot tubs, and ocean water for at least 7 days or until the skin looks and feels fully normal. Water exposure plus chemicals plus rubbing from towels can be too much.
- Hold off on heavy sweating for a few days. If you’re doing shift-work and you need to get movement in, keep it light and cool, and don’t let damp clothing sit on the area.
If you’re commuting around Hamilton Mountain near Concession Street and squeezing this into an after-work slot, plan on loose collars for a few days. It makes a bigger difference than most people expect.
A simple neck and chest peel routine (AM and PM) that actually fits real life
You don’t need a complicated routine after a décolletage peel. You need consistency. I keep it to three steps in the morning and two at night so it’s doable even if you’re out the door early or getting home late.
Morning (about 2 minutes)
- Gentle cleanse or rinse with lukewarm water.
- Barrier moisturizer (fragrance-free is usually the safest bet).
- Broad-spectrum SPF 30+ on neck and chest. Let it dry before getting dressed.
Evening (about 2 minutes)
- Gentle cleanse to remove SPF and sweat.
- Moisturize. If the skin feels tight, add a second thin layer.
Hold off on retinoids and exfoliating acids for 7 to 14 days. I only want you restarting those once the skin looks and feels fully back to normal. If you’re not sure, ask me first.
When to work out again, and when to message me instead
Light movement is usually fine once redness has settled, but I generally recommend waiting at least 48 hours before a run or a sweaty workout after a décolletage peel. Sweat, heat, and friction can sting and can drag out irritation. If you try a workout, keep it cool, wear breathable fabric, and shower with lukewarm water after.
Some redness, dryness, and mild flaking can be normal. What I want you to reach out about is anything that feels like it’s getting worse instead of better, like increasing pain, oozing, or redness that won’t settle.

If you booked this peel and you’re still deciding how it fits into your bigger skin plan, I kept a separate guide that walks through the service itself. It’s helpful if you like to know the “why” behind the steps.

One last practical tip: Put your SPF beside your toothbrush for the first week. If you’re the type searching “facial near me” in a rush, this is the easiest way to stay consistent without thinking about it.
And if you’re pairing your skincare with other appointments, I can help you space things out so you’re not stacking irritation. We do facials, dermaplaning, hydra facial, microneedling near me style treatments, waxing, waxing near me requests, lashes extensions, laser hair removal, manicure, pedicure, and body contouring near me consultations, so timing matters.
